Firefighters in the United States Job Summary

A Fire Fighter works under the direction of the Office of Protective Services’ Fire Chief and performs a variety of skilled and manual tasks in the field of fire prevention, such as testing automatic fire sprinkler systems and fire alarms, inspecting fire extinguishing equipment, performing fire safety inspections of buildings and grounds, and providing fire prevention training.

Written preliminary reports, daily logs, and any other written documentation requested by the Fire Chief are the responsibility of the Fire Fighter. The Fire Chief may assign additional responsibilities to the Fire Fighter.

Job Responsibilities

  • Pumps, foam generators, boom and ground sweep nozzles, and other similar equipment should all be operated.
  • Major motorized firefighting equipment is driven and operated.
  • Make that hydrants, hoses, and sprinklers are in good operating order.
  • Consider wind direction, water sources, and other risks when positioning vehicles.

  • Protect life and property by performing firefighter responsibilities and serving as a crew member.
  • Medical situations, motor vehicle collisions, and industrial/construction mishaps all require immediate attention.
  • Identify potential life-threatening threats’ symptoms and administer appropriate treatment and immobilization.
  • Verify and calculate suitable drug dosages.
  • Determine the most efficient path to medical facilities.
  • To supply receiving institutions with patient information, establish good communication with them.
  • Operate the alarm room’s equipment, which includes the radio, computers, and fire reporting capabilities.
  • Inspect buildings for dangers and notify occupants.

Job Qualifications

  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant industry experience is required, as well as a Certificate III in Public Safety (Firefighting and Emergency Operations).
  • Certificate III in Fire Protection Inspection and Testing is required.
  • License for Agent Handling is being revoked (EAHL).
  • Certificate in First Aid (Provide First Aid).
  • Driver’s License, Medium Rigid (MR). A minimum of 4 years of relevant industry experience is required, as well as a Certificate III in Public Safety (Firefighting and Emergency Operations).
