This position is accountable for carrying out all aspects of gardener work, including maintaining athletic sports turf, preparing sports field surfaces, designing, striping, and painting lines for intercollegiate athletic fields, repairing irrigation systems, spraying pesticides, controlling weeds, and operating heavy grounds equipment, under general supervision and in accordance with scheduled and periodic training.
This position is in charge of the general maintenance and repair of all the grounds and athletic facilities, ensuring a hygienic, secure, and appealing learning environment.

- Fills out equipment records as necessary
- Thorough familiarity with the procedures, materials, tools, and machinery involved in the planting, growing, and maintenance of flowers, shrubs, and trees, with a focus on sports turf fields and the equipment required; knowledge of turf diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies.
- Ability to follow straightforward spoken and written instructions, as well as the ability to read and write at a level commensurate to the position’s responsibilities.

- Holding the proper California state license required to do pest control operations
- Ability to operate independently with little supervision and in a team environment
- Must be able to work flexible hours that may include evening and weekend shifts depending on operational demands.
- Experience working with nursery or decorative plants for two years, including planting seeds and cuttings, watering, fertilizing, transplanting, and pruning.
- requires the use of a current California driver’s license to operate any equipment or vehicle needed for a position or in an emergency.
- must take part in any medical exams and physicals mandated by OSHA.
- For this position, a valid driver’s license is necessary. According to the California Department of Motor Vehicles’ rules, out-of-state applicants who are hired for the post are required to get a state of California driver’s license within ten days of their hire.
